A gorgeous, rustic country cottage in a picturesque little hamlet in the countryside in the municipality of Canillas de Aceituno – 20 minutes from the coast

Casa de Isabel is located in a cluster of country houses that cascade down the hillside, lined with pretty patios, little gardens and trees and surrounded by countryside.  The house was first registered in 1942 but is thought to date back over 100 years or more.  It has been renovated over time, but with many of its original features in tact.

The property is accessed, from a communal car park, down a little street, and a garden gate leads into the property.  Steps to one side of the gate lead down to the lower terrace and gardens, and straight ahead is the front patio, around which the two buildings that make up this house are located.  The first building, to the right, is the kitchen/dining room, with a double sloping roof and beams, two windows, one overlooking beautiful views across the valley, and original flooring.  This is a delightful room and one in which to enjoy cooking, and entertaining friends and family.

The second building houses the rest of the house.  The double front doors lead into a lovely living room, (8 x 3m) with its original fireplace, shelving, beams and original floors.  It is a very beautiful room with a calming atmosphere that immediately makes one feel at home!  Ahead, a doorway leads into an inner hall (3 x 3m).  To the left, a door leads into the bathroom with a walk-in shower and a window to the rear (3 x 1.5m), and to the right, the first bedroom with window (3 x 3m) and an air conditioning unit for hot and cold temperature control.

Back in the living room, stairs lead down to a lower room which could be used as an extra bedroom space or a dressing room (3 x 3m).  This room was once the animal shed, and still has the original feeding troughs.  There is a door here leading out to the lower patio and garden.  A door from this room also leads into bedroom 2 (3 x 3m) with a window to the lower patio.

Outside, the lower patio is the perfect place for outdoor living, and perfect for evening drinks or an afternoon siesta! The views are of the countryside, with a steep hill leading down to a stream, meaning that in the wetter months one hears the water trickling, and in the spring the air is filled with birdsong, including the beautiful sound of the nightingale.

Either side of the lower patio are two very useful store rooms.  The room the right is set up as a utility and store room, with a sink, (could be a second bathroom – 2.5 x 2m).  The larger store room, to the left of the patio could be replaced with a splash pool (which would be around 4m x 2.5m), and it even slopes down, which could be used to give a deeper pool area at one end of the pool.  It would mean demolishing this store room, however, there is a very useful third store room just around the corner (2 x 2.5m), meaning that even without this outbuilding, there is plenty of space for storage.

The rear patio is totally private. There is a built-in barbecue here and below, the gardens slope down the hill.  The garden is mainly left to nature, with mature trees and bushes, and some flower plants, but any gardening enthusiast could no doubt build in little steps and paths to lower levels.

From the rear patio, one can walk up wide steps that lead up to the top patio and the entrance gate.

This delightful, rustic-style cottage, bursting with character, is nostalgic and romantic, peaceful and private, and yet still sociable, being a part of a small, ancient cluster of country homes.  It is the perfect holiday home, easy to lock up and leave, and would work as a holiday rental.  It is connected to mains water and electricity and mains drainage.

The owners will consider close offers.
