AX996 – Cortijo Cerro Gordo, country house near Rincón de la Victoria

3 bedrooms – 2 bathrooms – separate 1 bed casita – 65,000m2 land – sea views – 3Kms from the coast – eco-friendly property (self sufficient)

A very beautiful, ancient country cortijo, totally private, and bursting with rustic character features, in a beautiful country setting overlooking the coast, under 15 minutes from the beach.

Location
This property is unusual, in that it is an original, character cortijo with plenty of land, within easy commuting distance of Malaga.  It is 3 Kms from the commuter town of Rincón de la Victoria, on the coast due East of Malaga city, with good access from the A7 motorway.  But unlike many properties located above the motorway, there is no sight, or sound, of the road!  Just the glistening Mediterranean sea, peaking between the hilly countryside close to the coast.  Malaga city is within a 20/25 minute drive.

The land
Consisting of around 65,000m2, the estate covers several hillsides, from the flat area around the house itself, dipping down into the valley, where clusters of fruit trees, local oaks and pine trees can be found.  Little paths and tracks exist that allow access to most parts of the estate.  The property has a driveway to a large parking area and access to the immediate gardens, main house, and guest casita.

Below the main garden is an ancient ‘era’ or threshing circle, with a little path leading down into the valley to one side.

The Cortijo
This wonderful old building is bursting with rustic features, such as stone detail, rustic terracotta floors, wooden lintels, windows, doors and beams, cane ceilings, shutters and alcoves in the thick stone walls.  A very large covered porch (7 x 3m) makes the perfect place to enjoy the outside, in front of the main cortijo.  And to the front is the main patio and garden area, with two vegetable plots, the 7 x 3m pool, and a lovely outdoor dining area, shaded by a huge carrob tree.  The views due South are beautiful, with the sea clearly visible, and the hills and mountains to East, West and North.

From the covered porch, a huge wooden front door leads into the hallway (3 x 3m), which immediately sets the scene of original rustic charm that is carried through the entire house.  To the left, an opening through the incredibly thick wall leads to the bedroom passage, but straight ahead, we move through into the large kitchen (around 6 x 4m), which is rustic style, with original wooden doors into a deep alcove serving as a kitchen store cupboard or larder.  At the far end, three steps lead down into the magnificent living room.

The living room consists of two different areas.  The lower area, leading from the kitchen, around 4 x 3m, has two huge picture windows over the views, with window seats – ideal for an afternoon nap in the Winter!  This area is ideal as a dining room, and it also has double doors leading out to the patio to the South and pool area.   Two wide steps lead up from this area, to the upper living room area, (around 4.5 x 5m), with a very high ceiling, beams and windows and woodburner, the perfect relaxation area.

From the upper living room area, is the far end of the bedroom passage, which runs long the middle of the house.  To the right, as one walks from the living room, we pass bedroom 1 (3 x 3m), bathroom 1 (1.5 x 2.7m), bedroom 2 (3 x 3 m plus wardrobe), the very large bathroom 2 (4 x 3m), and a beautiful room, and finally, at the far end, the master bedroom or bedroom 3 (5.5 x 4.5m) with built in wardrobe and rock feature.  It would be perfectly possible to divide the larger bathroom into two, making half of it into an ensuite for the master bedroom.

The Casita
With its own access from the car park and between the car park and the main cortijo, the casita has its own open patio terrace and side garden.  The casita is also rustic in style and consists of a living room/kitchen (5 x 3m), and three steps up to a bedroom (3 x 2.7) and bathroom (3 x 2.5m).

Altogether a beautiful property, that could perhaps benefit from a little improvement in places, but nothing major, and in a quite unique, very private location, close to the coast and Malaga.
