This is one of those joyous properties that lifts the spirit when one finds it!  It is everything anyone who dreams of owning an ancient (but beautifully restored) Andalusian cortijo could ever wish for, with the added bonus of not being along a long, dirt track, and enjoying stunning panoramic views.

Situated in the beautiful, unspoilt, hilly countryside close to the village of Comares, close to nature, wildlife and with beautiful views, Casa Navidad (“Christmas House”) is located only 5 or 6 minutes from the village of Comares, and within 20 minutes of the villages of Riogordo and Colmenar.  The coast and Malaga city is well within one hour’s drive.  There is no dirt track access to this property, it is located next to a quiet country lane.

The estate
The gated entrance leads onto a circular driveway/parking area, with the house in front and a path leading to a lower part of the plot.  In total the estate consists of 4100 square metres of land and includes plenty of areas to develop if you wish to grow vegetables or fruit trees, or just experiment with a Mediterranean garden.  And everywhere, the mountains and valleys display themselves proudly, as if putting on a show for the viewer!  Some of the land is steeply sloping but there are good flatter areas, including an area with a second gated entrance, useful extra parking, or ideal for bringing in garden supplies.

The cortijo and gardens
Made up of the main house, annexe and garage, the entire built area is 232m2, including terraces.  The original house is probably around 100 years old.

The gated parking area is beautiful in itself with a circular driveway and in front, the house stands in all its self-conscious beauty, enticing one in!  To the left is the garage (21m2).  Next to it, a door leads into the annexe, consisting of two rooms, a main room, and a smaller room, which could be a kitchen, perhaps, or bathroom, (23m2).  Adjoined to the annexe is the original bread oven that was once the main form of cooking at the cortijo, and still useable today (ideal for home made pizzas and local fresh lamb!).

To the front of the house is a large terrace area (12 x 5m), part of which has a metal pergola frame with a grapevine covering, ideal for Summer shade.  From here, the double front door leads into the living room.  This lovely room (23m2) immediately sets the scene for the rest of the house, with a high, sloping ceiling with beams, woodburner set in an original moulded plaster fireplace that is so typical of this area, and original rustic floor tiles, plus thick walls featuring wooden windows and deep, tiled window sills.  To the left, a door under the original fireplace leads down two steps into a study.  In fact this room (10m2) could be adapted for whatever use is most suitable to the new owners, hence it could be an office, a dressing room for the master bedroom, a library or reading room for example.  The room is equally beautiful, with a little window overlooking the views.  To the left fo this room is the family bathroom, (5.6m2) with a bath and overhead shower, and to the right of the study is a door to the master bedroom, a generous 21m2, with an ensuite shower room (4m2) and a door to the rear terrace.  As with the living room, these rooms all have beams and sloping ceilings, and both bathrooms have electric wall-mounted heaters.

From the living room, to the right, is a door and three steps leading down to bedroom 2 (12.35m2), with a character window to the front terrace, and a flat ceiling with beams.  Above it, accessed via steps from the living room, is bedroom 3 (14m2) which is equally beautiful, and with a sloping ceiling with beams and window to the front.  All three bedrooms have air conditioning (hot and cold).

In the living room, straight ahead, an opening in the thick walls leads into the kitchen/dining room, (19m2).  The kitchen is fully fitted and is rustic and beautiful in style, with a woodburner to make it extra cosy in Winter.  To the right is the dining area, sufficient to seat a large family comfortably.  And from the kitchen/dining room a door leads out to the rear terrace, a great space for outdoor dining and a place to admire the stunning views that strikes one the moment one walks out of the kitchen door!

Beyond the large terrace area, a gate leads out to the pool terrace, with an 8 x 4m, approx. (31m2) pool with steps leading down into the water.  Once again, the views dominate, and the area is totally private.  Underneath is the poolhouse, and some good flat land that would be ideal for growing trees or planting shrubs and flowers that are native to the area.
