Description

340m2 country house – 4 bedrooms – 3 bathrooms – 9000m2 plot – beautiful views – secluded and private

An unusual, top quality, character country house in a peaceful country haven, 2Kms from the country town of Colmenar.

For anyone looking for a large, top quality house in a secluded location surrounded  by a wonderful garden, and an olive grove with a mix of century old majestic olives, almonds and decorative trees,  not far from a village or town, this beautiful property is worth considering.

Location
Situated in stunning countryside surrounded by olive groves, 2Kms from the town of Colmenar, this property is a 30 minute walk from town and a few minutes in the car.  The track consists of 1.1 km paved and 0.9 km unpaved and no 4×4 is required. The countryside is beautiful, with Riogordo village visible in the valley below, and the beginning of Colmenar village is just visible from the driveway.

The Land
Recently measured at just over 9000m2, this lovely plot is totally private, and very peaceful. Ancient olives and a mix of other trees both fruit and decorative, have been planted between and below the trees, with native flowering bulbs including narcissi, orchids and freesias.    Much of the plot is walkable and usable, the rest dropping down into a lush, green small arroyo (brook/creek ) valley, with beautiful mountain and country views in all directions.  Much of the plot has been lovingly converted into the current garden in all its glory, with little paths that lead one around, and even down into the valley.  The rest, a large area around the house, has been made into the most exquisite gardens, carefully planted with Mediterranean flowering plants, trees, bushes, and succulents, requiring very little water.  It is a total delight to wander around the gardens, with the ever-constant glimpse of the magnificent mountain backdrop between the trees.

The topography of the property lends itself to a number of beautiful ways to integrate a swimming pool, perhaps with stonewalling around an above ground pool, and flush with the ground at one end.  A quality ‘swimspa’ solution would also work well in this environment.

There are two parking areas providing ease of access and ample space for a number of cars including areas with natural shading.

The House
Created in a rustic style,  with charming architectural features, achieving the true character of an older country property. From ceiling wooden beams, to wooden shutters and beautifully detailed doors to alcoves and terracotta floors.   Built on two floors, the main part of the house is on the ground floor level, plus an open area under the house for storage, where water tanks for garden rain water and fresh water are currently located.

A pergola with wisteria covering surrounds the stairs that take us to a walkway that leads around the house.  The South walkway provides additional space for dining or seating areas with pomegranate trees and a pergola covered in grapes providing shaded areas. The front door leads from the walkway into a hallway, with a utility room located off the hallway as well as the stairs.  From here, to the right is access to the living area.  Here, a fully fitted and top quality kitchen, with plenty of space (4.3 x 3m) and plenty of light, has a woodburner for cosy Winter evenings, and  a door leading out to a shaded terrace, ideal for outdoor eating.  Double doors lead from the kitchen into the dining room (3.5 x 3m) with wide arch opening into the comfortable living room (4.5 x 4.3m). This delightful room has high ceilings and beams, interesting alcoves in the thick walls, and plenty of natural daylight, along with exquisite wall lighting.  There is a second woodburner in this room too.  This set of rooms flow beautifully between each other, with high ceilings and a sense of quality throughout.

From the hall left, a short corridor leads to guest bedrooms 1 (3 x 3m) and 2 (3 x 2.6m) and the guest bathroom (3 x 2m) to the right of the corridor.  To the left is the very spacious and quite magnificent master bedroom (around 4.5 x 4m) with a door to a large ensuite bathroom in simple white and blue tiles (3 x 2m) with a bath and walk-in shower.  All rooms have a sense of country simplicity with a touch of luxury, with rustic details such as wall alcoves, Andalusian style wooden shuttered windows and built-in shelving, and the bedrooms all have quality wood built-in wardrobes.

From the hallway are stairs leading to the lower level.  This level consists of one huge room (80m2), and off this room is a large ‘cinema’ room (50m2) which would be ideal for setting up a home cinema, and with windows to the outside, plus a store room (4 x 2m) a bathroom (2 x 2m – currently without a shower fitted, but there is plenty of space to add one), and a fourth bedroom (4 x 3.5m).  For anyone thinking of running a small business, this whole floor could be dedicated to a number of activities, such as yoga, classes, lectures, or similar.  It is a wonderfully cool space in the Summer.

This beautiful house offers quality living in a totally natural environment, just 2Kms from a country town and 35 minutes from Malaga and the coast.
