A beautiful cortijo, packed with original features, set on the edge of a country hamlet just 5 minutes from Periana village and within walking distance of a small daytime bar and the sulphur springs of Baños de Vilo.

Location
The hamlet of Baños de Vilo is renowned for its totally natural, mineral-rich sulphur springs and its impecable natural country environment, ancient olive trees and mountain walks.  This property is one of many old cortijos hidden away amongst the trees and along the little country lanes around this beautiful area.  It is walking distance from the Baños bar (open during the daytime only) and a few minutes drive from the beautiful restaurant and bar at Guaro, and only 5 minutes drive from Periana, which has all the facilities one needs for daily living.  The coast is only 30 minutes away and there is no dirt track to reach this property.

The house
Located on the side of a very quiet country lane, with only the occasional vehicle passing by, this ancient, fully restored cortijo is attached to another, although one is hardly aware of this, and the neighbours have an entrance on the other side.

The house has an area for off street parking for around 2 cars.  From here a side gate leads onto the large covered patio, a beautiful area, currently full of flowering potted plants.  This is an ideal area for general outside living, eating and entertaining, and has lovely views over the pool area and olive grove beyond.

From the covered terrace area, a door leads into a delightful, ‘cottage’ style kitchen (but with all the facilities of a modern kitchen), which is fully fitted and with a pull-out family kitchen table for those occasions when it is necessary to eat indoors.  The kitchen (5 x 3.25m) also has a useful store area or ‘larder’.  Beyond, a short corridor leads first to the downstairs bathroom (2.5 x 2m) with large walk-in double shower, and then to Bedroom 1 (3.5 x 3m) with a window to the pool area and views.

From the kitchen an opening leads into the large living room with beams on the ceiling and a corner log burner for the Winter.  This lovely room is 7 x 3.5m and has a door leading out to a very pretty, tiled front terrace, facing the country lane, of 1.25 x 11m. At the far end of the terrace is a garden gate leading into the covered terrace described above.

From the living room, stairs lead up to a short corridor, with Bedroom 2 (2.5 x 2.5m), with wardrobe and window over the lane, and Bedroom 3, (3.25 x 3m), also with wardrobe and window over the lane.  Bedroom 3 has an arch leading into an ensuite shower room (2.5 x 1m).

The Land
Just below the covered terrace area is the pool terrace.  This lovely pool (8 x 4m) is unusual in that it has been clad with local stone, giving it a quite unique and very natural effect.   It is a salt water pool, meaning that it is much easier to keep clean than many traditional chlorine based pools.

A side gate leads to a small secondary terrace, and a fruit tree orchard and from here, we can walk out onto the rest of the plot which is more or less flat and planted with beautifully kept, mature olive trees.  These trees are currently looked after by a local farmer, in exchange for the produce.  The owners are given free olive oil too!  This arrangement could be continued should the new owners wish.  Other fruit trees on the plot include pomegranates, oranges, lemons, pear and apple trees, cherry, fig and almond.  The trees and the covered terrace benefit from an irrigation system.

A delightful house, brimming with character and in one of the prettiest mountain regions of Andalusia.
