An original farmhouse that has been lovingly renovated, preserving all its rustic features and charm, in the hills above Velez-Malaga and not far from Los Romanes  RESERVED

A charming cortijo or original country house full of character, with a good sized plot of land, 360 degree sea, mountain and country views, and easy access, perfect for anyone looking to have a traditional second home or as a permanent move.

Location

Cortijo Atalaya Alta is located in the area known as La Dehesa, mid way between the villages of Triana and Los Romanes, and within the municipal area of Velez-Malaga.  Access is good, either via the fully concrete country lane winding up the hill from Triana, or via the mostly fully concrete country lane from the Los Romanes road (about 100m of good dirt track).  Situated on the lower, South facing hills surrounding the Velez river valley area, the climate is excellent, with gentle sea breezes in the Summer and protection from the colder North winds in the Winter.  There are other country houses dotted around, and so it is not isolated, but the neighbours are not too near either.

The property is well within half an hour of the coast and within an hour of Malaga.

The land

The plot consists of around 4000m2, most of it perfectly accessible and useable and laid mainly to meadownland.  It slopes down the hill but is walkable and it is ideal for animals and horses. There are mature olive, almond and carrob trees growing on the plot.  There is a gated entrance with a good sized parking area, and ample terraces around the house.

The house

Typically with these old houses, the building is an unusual shape, and retains all of its charm and original character, throughout.

Walking across the open terrace to the side, and passing the large store room, and covered laundry area (see floorplan), the front door leads into a room currently used as an outer living room or dining room.  This unusally shaped room has double doors at the far end leading out to the covered South facing terrace, and an opening through thick walls in the beautiful living room, with three sets of windows overlooking the South views, and a fireplace with woodburner at the far end.  The sloping ceiling has beams and cane infill, a most traditional and typical feature of the old houses in this area.

Three openings and a couple of shallow steps lead into the large, fully fitted kitchen, part divided by an interesting wall of alcoves and with a door out to the charming inner patio.

To the left of the kitchen area is a small lobby leading to the left into the bathroom with large walk-in shower at the far end, and to the right into Bedroom 1 with a window over both the open terrace on one side and the inner patio on the other.

The patio is the perfect place for pot plants and climbers and a great area for dining, entertaining or just having a spot of breakfast or a coffee, conveniently close to the kitchen.  There is a door out from this patio to the outside, close to the parking area, such that should anyone wish to use the dining room as an extra bedroom, it would be possible to avoid using the door into the house from that room.

Beyond the patio at the far end, a door leads into a hallway.  To the left is Bedroom 2, bursting with charm, a most beautiful room, cool and serene.  Ahead is the second bathroom or wet room, with walk in shower area.

There is no pool at this house, but there is plenty of space to add a beautiful swim-spa style pool, which does not require planning permission.  For more information on these easy and attractive solutions, contact us.

A charming home, with all the original features that are so sought after and hard to find, in an area with an excellent climate and well within half an hour of the coast at Torre del Mar.
