Description

3 bedrooms – 2 bathrooms – traditional style – beautiful pool – stunning location – up and running holiday yurt business with 2 yurts – 28,700m2 plot

A beautiful renovated cortijo farmhouse bursting with character and dreamy Andalusian charm, together with a lovely little holiday yurt business, which could be expanded, all set in a stunning mountain location.

If you are looking for a true Andalusian traditional country home in amazingly beautiful surroundings plus a small holiday retreat business to keep you busy in the Summer or Winter, look no further than Cortijo Gorrion (House of Sparrows).  Located along a dirt track that is passable in any vehicle all year round, this beautifully restored house nestles on a secluded hillside in the hills between Sedella, Arenas and Velez-Malaga, offering privacy and peace.  There are one or two other houses around but this property is private and not overlooked.

A private driveway of around 150m leads to the main cottage, with plenty of flat areas for parking.  To the front of the house is a simply charming dining terrace (6 x 3.5m) with an arched metal framed structure which has a cover to create a cool, shaded terrace in the Summer.  From here there are beautiful views of the surrounding hills, and this terrace leads around to the pool terrace.  The pool is 23m2 and is a unique shape and very attractive, with terracotta tiles around and low walls. Next to the pool is an additional patio area and there is an outhouse with a large fenced field, ideal for dogs.  The pool terrace has a built-in barbeque and sink, a store cupboard (2.25 x 1m) and there is a detached shed.  There is an additional small outbuilding to the side of the house.

From the front dining terrace, double painted doors lead into the living room/dining room, (6.5 x 4m) with charming features such as traditional style shuttered windows, sloping ceiling, original alcoves in the walls, and a build-in woodburning fireplace at the far end.  To the other end a tall arch and two shallow steps lead into the rustic style kitchen (4 x 3m) with double doors to the gardens.  Back in the living room, a further tall archway leads into the inner hallway (3 x 2m) with pretty centered window to the rear, looking over the rear of the property.  To the right, a door leads into a bedroom (3.75 x 3m) with window to the side, and a further door leads into the ensuite shower room (2 x 1.5m plus walk-in shower area).  The walk-in shower area is accessed through an archway with brick detail, and has a beautiful terracotta tiled floor.

From the hall, to the left, a pretty passageway (4m long) leads past the stairs, past the family bathroom with walk-in shower, and alcove, (3.25 x 2.25m), and to the second bedroom.  This bedroom (3.25 x 3.25m) has double doors to a pretty terrace of around 3.5 x 2m with wooden pergola roof covering and a lovely built-in tiled seating area. This bedroom is currently used as an office, with a double sofa bed for guests.

The stairs lead up to the third bedroom, with sloping ceiling and beams, and two sets of double wooden doors onto juliet balconies overlooking the front and side of the house.  This beautiful room is around 6 x 3.25m.

Beyond the house, immediate terraces and pretty gardens planted with flowers, trees and shrubs, a path leads to the rest of the plot, forking in two different directions, past many productive olive and almond trees, lovingly looked after by a good neighbour.

At the very top of the plot, on a large flat area with simply breathtaking, sweeping views of the Maroma mountain and the distant peaks of the Sierra de Almijara, is the location of the little holiday yurt business.  This consists of two paved areas with luxurious yurts that can be taken down in the Winter and stored.  There is a communal building with a kitchen and bathroom for use of the guests and a pop-up above-ground pool has been used in the past, and a jacuzzi (not included) plus there is a sun terrace.  There is also an additional outbuilding in this area, for storage and a third round concrete area used for the pool, which could also be for a third yurt.  On the way up to the yurt area is a large water deposit which might even have potential as a second Summer swimming pool.

This is a real gem of a property, bursting with beauty and original features, and still with plenty more potential.
